A walk in the Old Town of Calpe
If you are spending holidays in Calpe, do not miss discovering “el casco antiguo”, the old town of Calpe. The fishing village of Calpe, originally consisted of a walled old town constructed around the church. Pirates from North Africa attacked frequently Calpe, then the residents had built a wall to defend themselves.
You will immediately fall in love walking in its narrow cobbled streets. Its traditional houses decorated with flowers and its painted walls, bring a very special atmosphere
One of the highlights of the Old town of Calpe is the Torreó de la Peça. Located in the Plaza de la Vila, which was part of the double defensive wall with artillery that defended the city in the 15th century. As well the currently houses of the Museo del Coleccionismo.
Religious heritage
Don’t miss visiting the two churches : the first one is the parochial Church decorated with paintings depicting landscapes of Calpe. The second one is a small Gothic church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves. This attractive building was built in 1975 & has a mixture of both modern & traditional design. Its features include beautiful stained glass windows, and mosaic murals both externally & inside the building. Those mosaics illustrate different periods from the Old & New Testament. As well as images of the Cristo del Sudor, and the Virgen de las Nieves. In the evening, this quiet neighborhood becomes much morelively and has a special atmosphere.
Culinary offer
In summer, a small craft market is present daily. After the market, you can make a break having a drink in one of the many terraces. There are a lot of bars and restaurants for a romantic dinner in Calpe or simply a snack.
